Almost a decade later, Pierce&#39;s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns - to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community. A crusading school principal gets back into actionthe original African-American electrical superhero. Firstly I&#39;d like to question what the critics over at another review site were smoking to give this 100%.<br/><br/>The acting is very poor. The daughters and his ex wife in particular are overacting so much that it&#39;s cringe worthy. I know it&#39;s only one episode in but the characters have no depth or personality at all so far (including Mr Black Lightning himself). James Remar, who is usually a fantastic actor, even looked bad in this. Maybe it&#39;s the direction or maybe it&#39;s the writing.<br/><br/>The fighting scenes… maybe they need to use some camera trickery to speed things up because this dude has the worlds slowest kick that manages to make a person fly about 4 miles back. I know the law of physics do not apply to the super hero genre but come on! This was outright ridiculous!<br/><br/>As for the story… it&#39;s terrible writing. A man who&#39;s not been black lightning for several years suddenly resurfaces and shows his true face to the villains and the police yet nobody recognises him despite him being a well known member of the community. Did the police car dash cam not catch his face or am I expecting too much realism from a show?<br/><br/>Two starsI ended up playing games on my phone half way through and stopped paying attention. I&#39;m not here to hate but it is significant to know this isn&#39;t the best show out there, it is great but it&#39;s not the best. Hollywood is fairly new to the whole diversity thing so it&#39;s interesting to look at how they take on issuessensitivepolice brutality, racism ingrained in the justice system and gang violence. The show could definitely be so so much better butof yet I haven&#39;t seen anything very eye-catching and the story line seems uncertain and predictable.
